print vs web

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

“Should I do a print brochure or a web brochure?”
Both have positives and negatives.

A print brochure can be left somewhere for others to pick up, mailed or stuffed in with other materials. As people are gathering information, printed materials are still a vital part of decision making. A printed brochure costs money each time information changes, the information is static for a printing cycle.

A web brochure is fluid and can be changed as often as needed with the only price being the webmaster maintenance fee. It can be seen by millions if they happen to find you through a search engine (market that website!). But will they find you?

The bottom line is “who’s your market?” Is he/she going to be searching for your services or products on the internet, at trade shows, in a doctor’s office? Knowing your target market helps you make the best decision for where to spend your advertising dollar.

Kudos

Here is a great email I received – no editing was made:
“Thanks for your flexibility- amazing! and patience- incredible!- Your prices are fair for the design work you provide and the fast turnaround, particularly important when we are new to one another as a team, and the marketing for the WLC 2006 conference increased dramatically in complexity. Please know that you are much appreciated. ”

Photos again

Another source of stock photos is microsoft’s clip art and media page. Although the photos not very good resolution for printing, they are great for the web and for small images in printed pieces. The clip art is good for sparking ideas. I needed a diploma, a scroll, and a bell for a logo draft. I found something along the lines that I liked and then modified them in illustrator so they didn’t look micro-softy. You never know where the inspiration is going to come from. It’s good to have a variety of sources.

Inamed Academy is sponsoring a Women’s Conference in March. We did the web design for the conference site, a printed ad for the Coastal Woman Magazine, and a flyer for the Goleta Chamber of Commerce members.

Goleta sadness

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

There is news that a woman went shooting at a postal facility in Goleta. One of the victims is an acquaintence – a cub scout mom. She went to the same church as my friend. There are 3 little boys now without a mom. Very tragic.
