Designer’s Toolbox

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

As I was looking for a remittance envelope template for Quark, I found this neat set of tools at Designer’s Toolbox. They had

  • A complete guide of standard envelope styles and sizes.
  • information on the 4 standard postcard sizes, along with USPS mailing regulations.
  • Different document folding styles
  • Easy access to all of the proofreading marks and what they mean.
  • A fraction to decimal conversion chart already completed for you.

Major cool. The best part was I got an .eps file for a remittance envelope which worked perfectly!

Re-election campaign

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

There is always an election somewhere.

In 2001, I did the graphics for Jack Hawxhurst who ran for city council of Goleta. The cityhood of Goleta was being voted on in that election as well. Cityhood passed, Jack was elected.

Now, it’s time for re-election. Not only do I have the print component (lawnsigns, brochures, etc) but a website as well (there wasn’t a site in 2001).

Obviously I support Jack in his efforts even if I’m not in the city of Goleta!

What makes you special? Or how are you a purple cow?

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

IBM has a new comerical campaign on TV that emphasizes what makes you (your business) special. Niche marketing is what’s hot. How are you, your product or service a purple cow?

Purple cow you ask. What’s that? Seth Godin is a marketing guru who advocates transforming your business by “being remarkable”: that the only way to market yourself is by getting to the niche who likes your product and by being so remarkable, that the niche tells others. This becomes your marketing. The “sneezers” spread the “idea virus”. Very interesting book.

Then I saw the IBM commercial and it was supporting this purple cow concept – how are you special. Then of course IBM says they can support you in that quest.

So, what’s your purple cow?

Divas at the Doubletree

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

This year, once again, Dutcher Design will be a sponsor for the Divas at the Doubletree fundraising event. This year the beneficiary of the event will be the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara.

Last year I just did a flash site for the event. This year there is an html version as well. There are some who do prefer a regular site. Non-flash sites are more user friendly but sometimes you just gotta have the wow factor.
