Every year, I get a calendar from Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The children who are in the hospital have art therapy through the Mark Taper – Johnny Mercer Arts Program. A statement in the calendar reads:
“Through a wide range of expression through the arts, hospitalized children give voice to their feelings, work through fears about illness, begin healing, and find pleasure in art.”
The art on the calendar is by the children. They are pictures of animals, hearts, seasonal ideas. They were created in different mediums, colored pencils, collage, acrylic, etc. I am humbled by the images, simple as they are. There is a story behind each of the pictures, sad and hopefully eventually happy.
I like looking up over my monitor and seeing the lovely pictures.
