Isla Vista Community Relations Committee Calendar

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

As part of my UCSB work, I did the layout design for the Isla Vista Community Relations Committee Calendar. The Committee solicited photos from IV Residents as part of a contest. Contest winners’ photos were used in the calendar.

The need to re-design

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I have only performed cosmetic changes to my site since 2003. Standards have changed so it is now time to do a major overhaul to this site. It’s hard to justify the time because I’m busy with my clients’ needs. I rather take care of them than to spend time on my own code.

But it is time. I must begin.

Center for Discovery postcard

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Sent to the printer yesterday is a postcard for the Center for Discovery. They are an adolescent treatment facility with multiple locations in Southern California. They are sponsoring a lecture for professionals who work with clients with eating disorders. They wanted an advertisement in a postcard form which kept the brand from their website. Here is the result:

My big fat greek event

Monday, January 21st, 2008

It’s time for the yearly school auction. Last year the theme was Margaritaville. It was held at the Greek Orthodox church so this year, since it will be at the Greek church again, the theme will be “My Big Fat Greek Auction” taking off from the “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” motif.

I actually started working on the design last summer when I was just messing around with ideas about this.

The whole package will include invitation, rsvp, raffle tickets, program, party book, thank yous, and whatever else is needed. We’re talking about a mural sized poster for advertising purposes.

Casa del Mar Inn

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

We recently finished the redesigned logo, business card and letterhead for Casa del Mar Inn in Santa Barbara. The designs have been finalized and it will be a gradual process that the logo gets integrated into existing print and web work.

The first thing to design with the new look and feel will be a generic print ad. Drafts are being developed. We need to think about how this ad will be carried over to the new key holder, brochure, and notepad holder.

Clean

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

So many of my clients say they want a clean site, a clean line in their design. Clean means lots of white space. They are attracted to the white space but when it comes to putting their content into a layout, they have so much that there is no white space anywhere. Sometimes it’s just a case of creative element maniplation but other times, it’s just plain impossible.

What’s really important to the message? Clean is good. Keep it simple.

Anotoine Saint-Exupéry (The Little Prince) is attributed to saying:
Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

This is a good design principle.
