INSTALLING A HUSBAND

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0
uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as
· Romance 9.5 and
· Personal Attention 6.5,

and then installed undesirable programs such as

· NBA 5.0,
· NFL 3.0 and
· Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

· Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate.

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind,
· Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while
· Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html, try to download Tears 6.2, and do not forget to install theGuilt 3.0 update.
· If those applications work as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or Beer 6.1.
· Please note that Beer 6. 1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0-program. This is an unsupported application and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend
· Cooking 3.0 and
· Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck!

Childrens Hopital LA Calendar

September 7th, 2009

Every year, I get a calendar from Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The children who are in the hospital have art therapy through the Mark Taper – Johnny Mercer Arts Program. A statement in the calendar reads:

“Through a wide range of expression through the arts, hospitalized children give voice to their feelings, work through fears about illness, begin healing, and find pleasure in art.”

The art on the calendar is by the children. They are pictures of animals, hearts, seasonal ideas. They were created in different mediums, colored pencils, collage, acrylic, etc. I am humbled by the images, simple as they are. There is a story behind each of the pictures, sad and hopefully eventually happy.

I like looking up over my monitor and seeing the lovely pictures.

Twitter usability

August 25th, 2009

I read usability studies – what is a good user interface, what are barriers to users doing what they need to do. Jakob Nielson is the usability guru. His article this week is about Twitter and the best way to get your message across. The idea is that text is an interface. Great article.

Addicted to Design Blogs

February 13th, 2009

Every morning I look at my RSS feeds to see what new and cool article was posted on my favorite design blogs. I learn something new all of the time. I love the tutorials. It’s instant gratification. It used to be if I wanted new info, I’d take a class, buy a book, subscribe to design magazines. Now I get everything delivered to me via blogs. Nice.

The envato network had many specialized blogs.
Webdesign Ideas is fun.
The “eezy” sites are good to get snippets of design that I can use in my designs.

UCSB

February 8th, 2009

The need to re-design

February 7th, 2009

I have only performed cosmetic changes to my site since 2003. Standards have changed so it is now time to do a major overhaul to this site. It’s hard to justify the time because I’m busy with my clients’ needs. I rather take care of them than to spend time on my own code.

But it is time. I must begin.

Noozhawk article

October 22nd, 2008

Noozhawk, an online newspaper here in Santa Barbara is doing a series on MVP – most valuable parents. I was nominated by Bob and was chosen to represent my boys’ school. The article is here.

Busy – the usual

July 6th, 2008

No excuse for new postings other than I’ve been so busy. I haven’t updated my portfolio in a few months either so there are lots of cool new designs that aren’t posted yet. I’ve done

  • several print pieces for Amertec
  • several emails and postcards for Center for Discovery
  • a postcard/invitation for New Directions Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program
  • a new ad for Architectural Millworks to be seen in the SB Magazine
  • success story layouts for HP
  • an on-line newsletter for Santa Barbara Athletic Club
  • new logos, postcards, business cards for a Parent Click franchise
  • newsletter for ITFMA
  • Hotel Mar Monte ads

Then I’ve done the usual maintenance on websites and taken care of anything else that was needed. Lots to do!
